Abstract

Diabetic diet has a significant role in the prevention and controlling of the chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome. This article focuses on the basics of diabetic diet plan to provide an understanding on the types of foods that are suitable to support a diabetic dietary plan with consideration on foods that are low on glycemic index. These comprise high fibre carbohydrates, lean meats and good fats, all of which work to improve insulin outlook and decrease inflammation. Some of the factors that are touched on include glycemic index of the foods to be consumed, the portion size and the time of food intake to ensure excessive rise in blood sugar levels is prevented. Furthermore, the article describes the potential benefits of consuming vegetables, whole grains and legumes in enhancing the diseases eb health quality of diabetes.
